If you bank with Wells Fargo you should already know this. The bank’s new $3 debit card fee kicks in for purchases made on or after October 14th and those charges will show up on your November 14th statement. This is a program that Wells is piloting in several states including Georgia. Alabama customers shouldn’t be affected unless they opened their account in Georgia. A spokesperson told me there are also some old Wachovia (Crown) accounts that won’t be hit with the fee. So, it’s important to ask your banker if you’re in that number. Also, simply ask if the fee can be waived. Here’s a link to some basic Q and A you might want to look over. Wells Fargo joins a number of other banks charging customers for swiping including Regions and SunTrust. Bank of America will begin charging its account holders in 2012.

if you absolutely hate the idea of this fee, try checking out your local Credit Union. I believe TIC takes members as long as you reside in the area.
DaBratkin…I left TIC because they also charge for using Debit. Its all a part of Communism and Socialism. Why be punished for using your money? I’ll be leaving Wells Fargo soon.
