The IRS has just released its total unclaimed refund amount for 2007. Over 1 BILLION ( not million! ) dollars. If you have not filed a 2007 tax return and you think you might be due a refund, file it before April 18. (That means NOW!!!) If you do not file by the April 18th deadline, the IRS, by law, keeps the refund for the government. If you are due a refund the IRS will not charge you a late penalty.
I would strongly recommend sending your tax return for 2007 by certified mail with a return receipt. This will allow you to prove that you sent the return. In April, the IRS gets millions of returns . You will have proof that the return was sent to them before the final deadline to file should it be misplaced or lost in the mail.
