An old trunk that had been stored for over 60 years, a secretary desk buried in a spare bedroom, an antique refrigerator & old beer keg in the kitchen, black leather chair and ottoman, and a 100 year old banjo in a shadow box, these are just a few of the things I noticed tucked away while doing a consultation on a recent job.
“This is so beautiful, how unique, you should be using this…” I kept saying, “You already have several very nice pieces, would you like to incorporate these into your living space?” I asked. “Sure if we can, I might even have some other things we can use in the attic,” he replied.
Total cost on items for this new look – Zero! That’s right, without spending a dime on new pieces, we repurposed and rearranged everything to give this bachelor pad a whole new look. Shopping in the attic was fun.
Here are a few of the items we found to use: a radio from 1950’s, an old, manual typewriter for the secretary’s desk, a box for the dresser and a really cool lamp for the shadow box. These treasures from the attic pulled everything together.
What treasures do you already have in your home or attic? While doing your spring cleaning take a look to see if you can repurpose and create a new look with things you already own. Be creative and have fun – Happy hunting! Don’t forget to ask your parents or grandparents if you can shop in their attics too.
Next on this makeover list – pub style kitchen! And yes ladies he already knows that the big screen TV in the kitchen will be the first thing to go when he decides to settle down. Until then, pub style kitchen.
We still have a few things to do but here are the before and after photos of what we’ve done so far. Share your photos with us if you find things that can be repurposed to “SAVE A DIME”!
