Hurricanes, Wild Fires, Tornadoes, Earthquakes, Floods, Snow Storms – This year the U.S. has experienced one natural disaster after another. Of course there is nothing we can do to stop these types of emergencies but we can take time to be better informed and prepared if possible.
Does your family have an emergency plan? Do you have food, water, and other supplies for three days or more to help your family survive an emergency? What if we are not together when an emergency happens? These are just some of the questions to ponder when creating your plan.
With September being National Preparedness Month, focus on BEING READY, there’s no better time to evaluate, update or create our own emergency action plan for family and business.
To get started, go to National Preparedness Month’s websites (www.Ready.gov and www.Listo.gov) or call toll-free 1-800-BE-READY, TTY 1-800-462-7585 and 1-888-SE-LISTO for free emergency preparedness information.
FEMA http://www.fema.gov/news/newsrelease.fema?id=57516 has also done a great job outlining and identified links on what to do and how to get started.
Remember to involve kids and elderly family members, they may have ideas and questions you haven’t thought about. Get started and outline your plan today!
